Check out how Mrs. Henley's 3rd graders used pumpkins to practice math skills!
After reading “How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin?” Students measured and estimated based on the pumpkin facts they learned how many seeds would be in their pumpkins.
In small groups, students sorted their seeds and checked their estimations using rounding, addition, & multiplication. One group was only 2 seeds off in their estimate! Pumpkins in our classroom patch varied in size from a 15 inch circumference to a 30 inch circumference! The pumpkin with the most seeds was not the largest pumpkin, but the pumpkin with the most ribs....it had about 500 seeds!
